Sabina Kef
Sabina Kef is an assistent professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy, department Special Education, of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam since 1 July 2004. She received a PhD in Social and Behavioral Science from the University of Amsterdam in 1999. From 1994 untill 2004 she worked at the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences of the University of Amsterdam. Furthermore, she is a member of the general board of the National Association of Educationalists in the Netherlands (NVO).
Her research focuses on the psychosocial development, personal networks and social support of blind and partially sighted youth in the Netherlands. Furthermore she is interested in other groups at risk, like impaired youth in general, and more common themes like influences of parenting and genetics on the development of children. She also is involved in teaching university courses on children and adolescents with impairments, parenting in families with an impaired child, care and support for persons with intellectual, sensory, physical and multiple impairments, and paradigm-shifts in care.

 

Janneke Hatzmann 

Janneke Hatzmann works as a research fellow at the Department of Clinical Child and Family Studies at the VU University in Amsterdam. Currently, she is working on a study addressing partnership, parenthood and parenting expectations of young adults with a visual impairment. In 2004 she graduated in Psychology at the VU University and participated as clinical interviewer in several research projects. From 2005-2009, she worked at the Emma Children’s Hospital/AMC on a study addressing quality of life and social participation of parents of children with a chronic disease, which has resulted in a PhD-thesis. She will be defending her PhD-thesis in October 2009. The topics that have her interest all relate to social participation in populations who face more challenges in this area.

VU researchers:

Carlijn Nieuwenhuis is a researcher at the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy of the VU University in Amsterdam. After her Bachelors degree General Social Sciences (Algemene Sociale Wetenschappen) she finished her Masters degree in Social Policy and Social Interventions (Sociale Vraagstukken: Beleid en Interventie) at the Utrecht University in 2008. During her studies she went to Guatamala for three months to do qualitative research in educational opportunities for boys and girls in Santiago de Atitlan. She wrote her Master’s thesis about the role of parental involvement in language development of immigrant elementary school students. For writing this thesis she did research in multiethnic elementary schools in Utrecht. This research was linked to a project called ‘Voorleesexpress’ and commissioned by the Foundation SodaProducties.

Since October 2009 Carlijn works for the VU University. Besides this Parenting project she is also a researcher at the project ‘What Works for parents with an intellectual disability?’ Since January 2010 she is furthermore involved as a research assistant at the project ‘Assessment of disturbance of attachment in children with intellectual disabilities’. Her work in this Parenting project focuses on data collection and some coordination tasks from March to August 2010.

Lidewij van den Berg is a researcher at the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy of the VU University in Amsterdam. Currently she is working on several research projects. Besides the Parenting project Lidewij is working on a project about ‘The effectiveness of a psycho-educational program for child witnesses and victims of domestic violence’. She graduated last year at the VU University. During her study she went to Surinam to collect data for her master thesis about child abuse. In the past she has worked as a social worker in foster care. Her work in this Parenting project focuses on coordination tasks in the data collection and also data collection activities itself from May to August 2010.

Latifa Tawfik is a junior researcher at the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy of the VU University in Amsterdam, the university where she studies Clinical Psychology and Orthopedagogy. Also, she is an active member of the Education Committee and writes opinion texts for the independent university newspaper. In the past, she has been a research assistant in diversity projects of the Verwey-Jonker Institute and FORUM Institute, in social research of the VU University and in health research of the GGD (national institution for health services). Her work in this Parenting project focuses on data collection and some coordination tasks from February to July 2010.

Interviewers:

Evelijn Wildenburg, Kim Hekman and Marielle Sibma are all Master students in Orthopedagogy writing their individual Master thesis in this Parenting project. They are participating in the interviews for the data collection of this study..

Anne de Meulmeester, Rianne ten Holder, Els Janssen, Sanne Hulsman en Willeke Halters are all Bachelor (3) students in Orthopedagogy, writing their group bachelor thesis in this Parenting project. They are participating in the interviews for the data collection of this study.
